Taxify Nigeria "best driver of the year 2018", faults the company over "Top Driver Award".
Mr. Sunday Ovienria ( second person from the right)
There seems to be a fall out between a ridesharing company Taxify Nigeria and a driver whose name is given as Mr. Sunday Ovienria. Sunday who was celebrated as the best driver with Taxify 2018 was also promised #90,000 cash and an all expense paid trip to Dubai.
Surprisingly Mr. Ovienria has cried out to say that the company is yet to reward him with the grand prizes, #90,000 cash and the Dubai trip. He went further to say that his account with the company has been blocked, meaning he can no longer work to cater to his family.
It was reported in December last year that, Taxify Nigeria celebrated both customers and top driver in an event. The event which was tagged "Taxify Rooftop Party: unlock your city", was held in Lekki Lagos. And they were promised by the company to be rewarded accordingly.
At the event the Brand Manager Bendega Terver was quoted as saying-
" we truly appreciate our loyal passengers that have taken hundreds of rides and been with us since inception. Our top drivers are also not left out and we are celebrating them for their consistencies".
Contrary to the above quote, the 'top driver' has not been rewarded up till now. But Taxify Nigeria came out with its own allegations citing reason for it's action. See below-
STATEMENT REGARDING TOP DRIVER OF 2018 AWARD
Bolt Nigeria would like to clear up the allegations of not keeping our reward promise to the driver who was announced as the Top Driver of the year for 2018.
Protecting the integrity of the Bolt community for both drivers and clients is an integral part of earning the trust of all our customers. And as new fraud detection tools became available in early 2019, we were able to detect previously undiscovered drivers who had taken actions that breached our terms of service including self ordering (the act of requesting a ride from an account controlled or connected to the driver). Unfortunately, Mr Sunday Ovienria, one of the drivers flagged was the driver announced as the Top Driver of 2018. These cases were further investigated and all the drivers involved admitted their actions and were sanctioned to varying degrees based on the severity of the breach.
It is on record that after the discovery, the driver in question was invited to the Bolt Lagos office and also had telephone conversations with the team where he admitted to this act and our decisions were related to him in clear terms. Furthermore, the driver in question already received all the other rewards given out to top drivers including gifts & food items worth hundreds of thousand and these were not retrieved. However, the grand prize was awarded to, Mr Idowu Olubamiji, the next driver in the rankings with a clean record.
Bolt loves rewarding her drivers but fairness and a level playing field are the cornerstones of a good reward program and we could not justify handing such an important reward to a driver who had breached our terms of service instead of a driver who had similar activity without resorting to such tactics.
TOP DRIVER OF 2018 GRAND PRIZE - A 1 WEEK HOLIDAY IN DUBAI
2018 was an amazing year for us and all our drivers partners. Your hard work and passion ensured we were the number one choice for moving around Lagos throughout the year.
To reward and celebrate our driver partners, we gave out gifts to the top 50 drivers of 2018 as well as holday packs to the top 10 Drivers but we saved the best for last. The top driver of the year was rewarded with an all expense paid trip to dubai for a 1 week plus 90,000 cash!
Once again, we congratulate Mr Idowu Olubamiji for a great 2018 without resorting to fraud or any other breach of our term of service for drivers. And hope he enjoyed his vacation!...

Mr. Sunday Ovienria claims that Taxify Nigeria has not given him the grand prizes nor has it given the prizes to any other driver. See excerpts from the chat
Bosbos: So let's cut to the chase, what really happened?
Sunday: No big deal really ma.
As at the end of year 2018, they announced me as the top over best driver of the year.
Bosbos: You were accused of "Fraud" soon after the reward was promised?
Sunday: Yes that was after they blocked my account in 2019. The acct was blocked on the 15th of January 2019. But the award is even on Google. once you Google Taxify best driver of the year award it will bring out my pics with few of their staff.
Bosbos: Hmmm why is the award still on Google for the whole world to see, if they believed your hard work was achieved under fraudulent practices?
Sunday: they earlier gave a condition that for a driver to qualify, his account must be active till 18 of January. And my account was blocked a month later yet the award is still on Google. They don't know what they are doing.
Bosbos: If that's the case, It implies that there is a breach. Have you spoken to a lawyer or any human rights activist. And what is their take
Sunday: Not at all ma, I'm hoping they'd unblock my account so I can continue to work and care for my family or make good their promise to me as the top driver, which is binding.
Bosbos: But they are saying that the grand prizes were later given to another driver next in line to you, that has a clean record. Did you ask that driver if truly he's given the rewards.
Sunday: The guy next to me was not given they blocked him too. It was after my exposition, that they rolled out that message, that they have given it to another person which no one was ever aware of.
Bosbos: Was there any pressure to achieve set targets, Like sales goals or Was there any case of missing funds?
Sunday: Not at all. It is at our paces.
Bosbos: So which angle could the alleged fraud be ?
Sunday: What they regard as Fraud is when a rider requests you like more than once or twice.
Bosbos: So a rider (passenger) is not allowed to have a favorite driver? How can a driver be faulted for this?
Sunday: No ooo They said it is a crime, they don't have data bank for riders that is why we are being attacked here and there.
Bosbos: OK thank you for your time Mr.
Sunday.
When an employee exhibits zeal and commitment towards his work, he adds up to his employer's goals. But when the organization fails to keep its promises to a committed employee, then the company becomes unprofessional and so looses its integrity.
Mr. Ovienria says he can't loose the grand prizes and also have his account blocked, its unfair.
